Judges Pay Referendum

So it looks like we will be having another referendum in Ireland this year. Unfortunately its not the long awaited Children’s Right Referendum, but a referendum to remove Article 35.5 from Bunreacht na hEireann. That article states The remuneration of a judge shall not be reduced during his continuance in office. This article was included to ensure that the Government of the day did not punish judges through their pay. While this may have been seen as an important safeguard in the...

Registered to vote?

Image via Wikipedia I saw in poster today in college which reminded me of this! Applications for the Draft Register of Electors for 2011 must be in for 25th of this month. This is the easiest way to guarantee that you are on the register if there is any elections next year. If you are in Dublin South, Waterford and Donegal South-West it is best to be on the register! Also with talks of the Children’s Rights Referendum happening...

The EU logo can be used on a voluntary basis on non-pre-packaged organic products that originate from the EU or that are imported...

This has causd huge anger in the ALDE grouping. Reports are also surfacing that the Fianna Fail MEP’s tried to scupper a resolution on Gay Rights emerging from...

Greens – Down But Not Out

The Green Party sufffered what is been known as a “wipeout” in the elections at the weekend. They were reduced from 18 seats in the 2004 to three seats. What it has shown for the Greens is that they now know their core vote. Which is 2.3% which is down 1.6% from 2004. This shows that a good portion of their vote is a core vote, but they lost their protest vote which went to People Before Profit and...
