So the elections are over and the counts are over, so its time for the Locals09 to end. I have deleted the tweetalert account so the account will remain as a bit of an archeive, but it will not be retweeting.

I hope the followers of the account found it useful. The project may be repeated for the Lisbon Referendum and the General Election, whenever that will be. I emhasie the may!

Press Releases are back!! Thanks to Gav of GavReilly.com an RSS feed for the Fine Gael website has been! It is here.

So not just news stories any more! Of course all the Press releases will be prefixed with “PR:” to distingush them from the news stories!

I’m glad normal service as returned!

Today I set up a new twitter account for the Local Elections in Ireland. Its Locals09.

What does it do?

This account will Retweet anytweet tagged with #le09. This will make it easier to follow tweets from various usersĀ  who you might not be following (or might want not to follow), so you can still keep track of the goings on. This will be handy to keep track of the election results.

How does it work?

By using TweetAlert it can search for the tweets and ReTweet them so you don’t have to do anything! Also it changes the # tag so it doesnt spam itself!

In the re-twittered tweets, your search string is being changed to avoid spamming the seach results.

Hope you enjoy it! Remember the hashtag is #le09

@FineGaelNews Status Update

Those of you subscribed to @FineGaelNews may have noticed a lack of official PR’s and news items in the feed. This is mainly because since the launch of the new Fine Gael sit there has been no RSS feed to feed into it!

This is quite annoying for me as getting the PR’s and Policys out there was one of the reaons I created the account.

Until Fine Gael get the RSS up and running @FineGaelNews will just be linking to news stories and to policy’s when I link in to post to it.

If anyone knows how to make a screen scraper for the site that might be able to be a work around and is willing to it (for free) get in touch with me at stephenATstephenspillaneDOTcom

Project: @FineGaelNews

newfglogostarThis is one of my favourite projects and one I hope to replicate when I get a chance for a few other parties.

What is it?

@FineGaelNews is an account for those interested in Fine Gael, a political party in the Republic of Ireland.

What does it do?

It searches for news stories involving Fine Gael through a google alerts feed and posts them on twitter via twitterfeed. It also takes items from Fine Gaels PR RSS Feed and posts them on twitter via Twitterfeed.

How many followers?

@FineGaelNews currently has 60 followers and one of those followers actually thought it was an offical account! I won’t name names though!

I have found this account to be useful for myself in finding stories about Fine Gael and it seams to be popular among FG activits and political bloggers among its following.

Welcome to Twijects, it is hope that this will be the blog of the projects that I embark upon that involve twitter, and on other peoples attempts at using twitter for various purposes.

Most of my projects involve using twitter for political purposes. If that interests you, this is the place to be!

My own account is here, if you want to follow me
